our guest bathroom is probably the most design-neglected room in the house. tiles are from eons ago, fixtures are old and some broken, and even the paint job i did 5 years ago was horrible and incomplete.
so i thought painting the ceiling would be an easy change to a small space that wouldn’t require added investment.
with painter’s tape i free-handed a zig zag design along the length of the ceiling.
using left-over paint in our cupboard, i rolled out a coat of dark grey. to be playful i painted a few of the thin strips with a metallic acrylic craft paint already in my stock.
$39 for an IKEA hand blown light cover.
things i learned that i would do differently next time:
– use GOOD quality painter’s tape. even though i was pretty neurotic pressing down the sides of all the tape, the grey bled through in quite a number of places which is a bugger to fix.
– if i was patient enough and had the budget, i would have purchased a coat of ceiling paint and painted a coat first. what this does is it primes the space and any paint that bleeds will be the background color anyway. but i’m lazy and cheap.
